In the 1960’s, doctors noticed that a great number of patients were asking to have their ears pierced. For them, Hastings Corporation of Massachusetts introduced the first reliable automatic ear piercer (the original “Coren”). It put a stud right in the earlobe, to be left in place while the opening healed. That innovation completely revolutionized the ear piercing experience: Coren “guns” were the "Model A" of their time. Similar instruments are still being employed in many malls and boutiques.
But now healthcare professionals demand an even better method. To protect patients from the transmission of disease, Hastings Corp. developed and patented the disposable, individually-sterilized, instrument. No more “gun”.
